What
is Centralised Air Conditioning?
Central air conditioning, commonly referred to as central
air in the US or air-con in the UK, is an air conditioning
system which makes use of ducts to distribute cooled
air to more than one room, or uses pipes to distribute chilled
water
to heat exchangers in more than one room.
Because the central air conditioning unit is located outside
the home, it offers a lower level of noise indoors than a
free-standing or portable air conditioning unit.
Central air conditioners are designed to cool the entire
house.
When selecting a system you should consider the following.
Select a central air conditioner with an outdoor sound rating
of about 7.6 DBs or lower, if possible and locate the outdoor
unit where its noise will not be a problem for you or your
neighbour.
The outside compressor for a central air conditioner should
be shaded from direct sun.
The central air conditioner will generally require more
airflow than the furnace needs for heating. Consider a two-speed
fan motor with the correct speed automatically selected depending
on whether cooling or heating is required.
The life expectancy of a central air conditioner is 15 years
or longer. (With proper maintenance). Proper maintenance
is critical in ensuring that your central air conditioner
will
operate efficiently and have a long service life.

systems see above.
